Youth Sports have a lot of benefits that help with child development.

1. Health benefits: Sports offer a fast-moving game with a lot of variety. Players run, jump, quickly change direction, and stop and start, which improves cardiovascular health. Practice drills, complex running routes, and defensive techniques all encourage speed, strength, and stamina. And these activities also engage motor skills, specifically hand and eye coordination. Plus, a recent study found that playing sports has positive effects on bone strength.

2. Teamwork: Youth sports teach kids accountability, leadership, and the impact of positive sportsmanship. Every position has a purpose and to execute a play successfully, each individual needs to fulfill their responsibility while working together- a skill that's valuable both on and off the field.

3. Discipline: Learning routes, repetitive drills, and executing proper technique take a high level of discipline-and players do it time and time again. Each practice is laying the foundation for a strong work ethic that kids will use throughout their lives. And this is one of the biggest benefits of youth sports.

4. Mental toughness: Sports are a great platform to build mental toughness. Whether it's making a mistake on the field or needing to come back from a major upset, setbacks are bound to happen. And to move forward, players must learn how to persevere. Every sport provides a lot of opportunities to improve mental toughness, from remaining calm under pressure to focusing during chaotic situations.

5. Socialization: Youth sports teach kids how to effectively communicate and work well with others. After all, one player can't do everything. They rely on each other-what a better way to make long-lasting friendships? Layer this with learning to respect and receive direction from authority (aka coaches) and you have a range of socialization skills.

COACH -PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these "six pillars of character." I therefore agree:

  1. I will not force my child to participate in sports.
  2. I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.
  3. I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.
  4. I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.
  5. I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and spectators at every game, practice, or sporting event.
  6. I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profane language or gestures.
  7. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.
  8. I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  9. I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.
  10. I will teach my child that doing one's best is more important than winning so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.
  11. I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard, and make my child feel like a winner every time.
  12. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  13. I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child over winning. I will also de-emphasize games and competition in the lower age groups.
  14. I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.
  15. I will respect the NYS Officials & Referees and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches or NYS officials at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed-upon time and place.
  16. I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at all sports events.
  17. I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.

I understand that myself, and possibly my child will be suspended without warning from the league for any violation of this Parents Code of Conduct.

Yes, NYS does not ask teams to fundraise or volunteer on game days. All NYS requests from parents is to volunteer with their child's team. There are many vital roles to play on a team and those positions are filled by volunteer parents. NYS offers a pre-volunteer section on the registration form, but many times we utilize the parent team meeting to recruit and assign coaches roles, once we have teams put together! All coaches are volunteers!

NYS does not ask coaches to do anything other than to encourage, educate, and coach the children on their team! NYS will set up all fields and provide Site Directors and Referees. Parents are responsible for encouraging a safe and fun atmosphere for the children participating in the games.

NYS does not provide specific practice facilities for each team. Teams are welcome to practice at any non-permitted field in your area. If your team is having a hard time finding a place to practice please contact NYS. We will help you with different options. NYS understands that every team will have a different makeup and we allow teams to decide when and where they practice. If your team secures a facility that requires insurance, NYS will provide liability insurance for usage. Please contact NYS with the facility information and we will get the liability insurance for you.

NYS does not ask teams to fundraise or pay team assessments; we encourage all members to bring a ball, cones, etc. for practice purposes. NYS does provide limited equipment for Baseball and Flag Football since these items are used during game days. Practice equipment for these sports can be obtained at the parent meeting or at a scheduled pick-up date.

NYS strives for perfection and wants to ensure that when we distribute a schedule that is up-to-date and accurate. Our organization works with many local school districts and local parks & recreation departments that may host various other activities at their locations. We release schedules one week prior to the first game.

Typically, teams practice up to 2 times per week prior to the start of the season and then reduced to once a week after the games have started. Practice times can vary based on age division. Most teams will practice once a week for about an hour. NYS does not restrict the amount of practice time, so teams can practice as little or as much as they desire. Game times will range from 50 minutes to 120 minutes depending on the sports and age division.

There are times when players may switch to another team during the season, either as a result of moving to a different area or an NYS error. Switching teams can only be done at the request of the player's parent or guardian.

NYS only cancels games if there are field closures. We will post on our Facebook page with updates if there is questionable weather. NYS does not makeup games if there are rainouts.

Team Photo and Trophies are determined by each individual team. NYS Nevada does not require each team to purchase these add-on items. Every team will receive photo and trophy options from All Year Sports. Questions? Please contact allyearsports@nysonline.net

NYS Nevada has a no refund policy. This policy is in place for many reasons, but primarily because as a small youth sports organization, we pay several fees at the time of every registration. With this, our standard policy is that all registrations are non-refundable. NYS does have several policies in place to make sure that every child and family is taken care of in a fair way.

  • Any NYS Registration is eligible for a full credit for a future season if requested by the parent prior to the start of games. NYS Credits never expire, can be used for any sport, any child, any season, and any time. If a uniform is given out, the cost of the uniform may be deducted from the credit.
  • If a request for credit comes after the first game, partial credits may be honored by the League Staff on a case-by-case basis. These requests must be requested in writing and will be discussed with that family directly.
  •  While NYS has a no-refund policy, we do understand that there may be extenuating circumstances where a refund is warranted. If a refund is requested by the parent prior to 4 weeks before the scheduled opening game of the season, a refund can be granted by the league staff. Any refund, however, will come with a mandatory processing fee.
  • The fee for a Recreational Registration Refund will be 20 dollars
  • The fee for an Elite or Tackle Football Registration will be 25 dollars
