For basketball, required equipment includes athletic shoes and a basketball.

Games are held on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at local schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, and private gyms.

Yes, Practices typically begin 3 to 4 weeks prior to the first week of games. Practices are usually held once or twice during the weekday, depending on your coach's/team's availability. Practice times and locations are determined by each individual team.

NYS strives to make team formation convenient and inclusive by grouping families based on coach requests, friend requests, and zip codes. If no requests are made, players are placed on a team near their location.

Yes, all coaches are parent volunteers. NYS does not require fundraising or volunteer hours outside of coaching. We simply ask families to consider helping with their child's team. Many coaching positions are filled during the Parent Team Meeting once teams have been formed. No prior coaching experience is required—we provide resources and support throughout the season.
