Biography
Director of Volleyball
Val first got involved in youth sports in 2001. While registering her son for flag football, she noticed the organization was hiring and decided to apply. Starting in the warehouse, her work ethic and attention to detail quickly stood out, leading her to support several departments from operations to data entry to collections. She became a go-to team member that staff and families could always count on.
She stayed with the company until its corporate closure in 2010, gaining nearly a decade of experience in logistics, administration, and youth program support. After relocating to Las Vegas in 2017 as an empty nester, Val reconnected with her former boss, Scott Blackford, who brought her on part-time in the warehouse. Before long, she was helping with volleyball operations, where her organization and leadership naturally took over.
Today, Val oversees the entire NYS volleyball program, focusing on creating a fun, inclusive, and family-oriented environment. She continues to grow the program through new opportunities, skill-building events, and pathways for former players to stay involved as referees or mentors.
Coming from a large family, Val understands the value of community and connection. Her goal is to make sure every athlete feels supported, has fun, and leaves the program with confidence both on and off the court.
